Introduction

Sheerness is a busy commercial port offering deep-water facilities to a range of industries including vehicle import/export, fresh produce, forest products and steel.

With its close proximity to the M2, M20 and the M25 motorways, Sheerness is well connected via a new road bridge to facilitate onward distribution to major markets in the South East of England and beyond.

With no lock restrictions, it offers easy access for shipping. The port has announced proposals for a new offshore wind turbine manufacturing facility in the southern part of the port area for Vestas Wind Systems. The facility could create around 2000 new jobs and put Sheerness at the forefront of the UK's renewable energy industry.
